Our mandate
The Marine Conservation Committee (MCC) aims to ensure that decisions taken by policy-makers and resource managers on the management of marine resources are based on sound and scientific knowledge.
The MCC supports, enhances and mobilises expertise in marine species conservation for a better future. Our mandate is to ensure that decisions taken on the future of marine species are directed at long-term population health and based on sound technical knowledge. Specifically, we help and link volunteer experts from the IUCN Species Survival Commission’s (SSC) network who have special knowledge of particular taxa or of cross-cutting concerns. We also advocate the use of SSC marine knowledge and skills in the broad global community, particularly by policy-makers and resource managers.
